LANGKAWI: The Government is studying the possibility of giving priority to qualified and innovative companies in the supply of services, said Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Datuk Seri Dr Maximus Ongkili.
Ongkili said a study would also be made on the idea of “central contract”, where a certain amount would be given to companies who adopted green principles.
“The players who adopt green principles are few as they don't see the extra margins to be made by going green and thus the Government will play a key role in promoting them,” he said at the launch of Basis Bay's Green IT approach here last Saturday.
On funding, he said, many technology companies were not able to get easy access as they did not fulfil the banks' requirements.
He said it was not true Malaysia lacked standards in best green practices.
“What is short is in terms of adoption of standards. It depends on the industry to agree on these standards and the Government to legislate,” he said.
Ongkili said the Multimedia Development Corp and the Ministry of Science Technology and Innovation were studying the standards for Green Information Technology (IT) practices.
