High speed campus - SEGi University College

STUDENTS of SEGi University College, Kota Damansara will now enjoy free 4G Internet upon registration, thanks to a recent memorandum of understanding (MoU) between SEGi Education Group and YTL Communications.
“I did my research before signing this MoU and I know that there is a major difference between providers who claim they offer 4G connections and those who actually have the service,” said SEGi Education Group chief executive officer Lee Kok Cheng.
“YES offers one of the fastest and most stable connections in Malaysia and that is exactly what our students need in an age of iPads and other broadband intensive gadgets,” he added.
YTL Communications deputy CEO Jacob Yeoh stressed on the importance of a stable connection in today’s era, relating the story of an embarrassing moment for Apple Inc chief executive officer Steve Jobs.

“During the unveiling of the iPad2, the 3G broadband connection that powered Jobs’ iPad gave way and he lost his internet connection midway through his keynote address,” said Yeoh.
“This is why a powerful and stable connection is necessary in our world today, especially when so much can count for that moment of uninterrupted Internet connection,” he added.
Students will get 300MB of data usage every month with no minimum usage and no activation fee for as long as they are enrolled at the institution.
Alternatively, students can opt for the “Campuspack 28” package, which provides 1GB of data, 100 minutes of voice calls and 400 SMS for RM28 a month.
They can also purchase reloads at RM10 to reactivate their connection, said Yeoh.
Under YTL’s Education Partner Programme (EPP) initiative, SEGi is the first private institution of higher learning in Malaysia to collaborate with YTL to provide its students with free YES 4G mobile Internet.
According to YTL Communi-cations executive director Yasmin Mahmood, almost all public universities have been approached with the programme.
“It is in line with YTL’s EPP agenda, which is to provide students from across the board access to the Internet that is fast and reliable,” she said.
“We see the importance of having students connected all the time.
Students of this generation use the Internet for all kinds of college-related activities, from accessing notes to checking timetables,” she added.
Yeoh said the 4G network would allow users to make video calls and conduct video conferencing that is seamless and in real time.
“People used to be satisfied with having a fixed line at home,” he said.
“Now we dare not leave without our handphones and the next step is clear, accessibility to the internet anywhere and everywhere,” Yeoh added.
